STe-6NE Identifies that the way objects move depends on a variety of factors
Content:
- (1) observe the way a variety of familiar objects move, eg sliding, rolling, spinning and bouncing on the ground
- (2) identify that the way an object moves depends on its size and shape, eg tennis balls and blocks
- With the use of the iPad Camera, students can be given different objects such as a tennis ball or blocks and record the different ways they are moving. At the end of this exploration stage, students can then show one another in groups and identify what time of movement it was - whether it was a roll, spin, bounce etc.
- The lesson will begin by watching the YouTube Clip "Force, Work and Energy for Kids" - as the character in the video moves certain objects around, the educator can pause the clip and ask students "What type of movement do you think that was?" - This will continue to further concrete certain movement terms for student knowledge.
- Once the YouTube Clip activity is completed, teacher and student discussion can be done by the different movements they observed during the video. Then students will be placed into groups of two or three and given an object. They will be required to move the objects in different ways and record them as they are moving.
- Once it is sharing time at the conclusion of the lesson, students can take turns in identifying these movements with the use of appropriate terms (achieving both outcomes!).
